Day 14
On Day 14, we finished out work
with the locker room. Firestone’s locker room is massive. It had rooms filled
with lockers, large open seating spaces, bars, and incredible amenities. During
our project, almost every day we checked on the progress in the locker room.
When we first arrived, Mr. Carter told us about the “winner’s rooms” were being
revamped. These rooms have been dedicated to players who have won at Firestone
during national tournaments. Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicholas, Tiger Woods, etc.
all have rooms in the locker room. However, they are currently under renovation.
We monitored the color of the wood, bed frames, tables, desks, chairs, carpeting,
electrical work, blinds, etc. The renovation was quite extensive and ran into a
few minor problems, which we were able to help Mr. Carter address. All in all,
the locker room has taken a much more modern turn, and will provide as a major
attraction for consumers. Today, we also took finishing looks at the new Championship
Pavilion. This project started about the day we got there, so Mr. Carter
allowed us to help contribute. Scott and I were able to pick out the concrete
color, choose the rocking chair color, decide where the plaque might go, etc. This
project will also be a big attraction, and will be incredibly useful during the
tournament. We really appreciate Mr. Carter for letting us help him work on
these major projects happening at Firestone. This taught us a lot about handy
work and time management. Ultimately, Scott and I might have to do similar work
in years to come, so the exposure was incredibly valuable.
